build your own Hydra tank

Maxmini released an heavy weapon platform that can be used to convert an Hydra tank for your IG army, it seems that they will also relase some missiles compatible with the turrent so you can also use it as Manticore.
I think this is a really good alternative if you already have a spare Chimera and you don't want to buy the Hydra tank from Forgeworld

Here is some further detail from last Maxmini mailing list:
AA Turret - our next heavy weapons piece. Took quite a time to finish it out but I think the wait was worth it. Made by combined efforts of Mateusz "Matus" Gajos and Marcin "Majster" Szmyt with some additional help of Hamster52. We've made sure that this kit is quite versatile. Thx to separete mounting ring it should be easy to attach it to custom terrain, vehicles etc. Also it will be easy to swap weapons for some different ones (in fact we're currently working on missiles). Heck, we're even discussing making some sort of legs / tracks for it :D .

Imperial Guard Sentinel conversion

I love the design of the mechs in Paolo Parente's Dust Universe and I wanted to create something similar that can be used in a wh40K game, so i came up with the following idea (really simple actually): put a turret on th top of a Sentinel.
The new Hellhound turret looks much better but for now I have to use the Chimera's one since it's the only one available to me right now.

This is the initial concept:

new Basilisk kit doesn't have other weapon options

Sadly it seems that the new Basilisk kit doesn't have the other main weapon options available in the codex (I was looking forward for the colossus...) The only thing that look different are the tracks that now have the same design of the Hellhound.

Light assault!

Recently I'm having problems with the speed of my army, usually I win because of the Vendettas rather then the 2 leman russ so I'm wondering if would be a good idea to keep just one Russ and add some light tanks. Thanks to the Emperor the new codex has some great option, this is the change I'm thinking about:

remove
  • leman russ (standard)
  • keep the second leman russ demolisher but get rid of the plasma sponsors
  • 6 Kaserkins
  • adjust some weapons around
add
  • 10 veterans with an awesome lascannon (lascannon with BS4 is always welcome)
  • a chimera for one troop squad (so the can run to an objective)
  • 3rd vendetta/devil dog
in this way I'll have more mobility moving the chimera loaded with troops in order to give support to the devil dog

I'm also doing some minor conversion, this is the chimera with a turrent mounted flamethrower

I wanted to have some swappable weapons on the Devil Dog (I'm worried that the multimelta won't be that useful...) so i placed some magnets on both the weapon and the support (the black plastic has been cut from a standard GW base)

and then i glued the support on the Devil Dog's hull

Snipers!

I was searching for a smart way to use 2 ot the 5 men in the comman squad, I did't want to waste their BS skill of 4 so I was thinking about giving them a special weapon.
My original idea was to give them some melta guns but in all the games I've played so far I never had the chance to move the command squad near to an enemy unit, usually the stay put giving orders to nearby units and using the master of the ordnance fire.
The other option was to give them an heavy weapon but since they would count as a single model with 2 wounds they would be too exposed to high strenght weapons, a weapon with S more than 5 will get rid of the whole model immediately!
So the only alternative left was to make them snipers!

I cut the sniper rifle on the command squad sprue,
then I glued it on some standard IG arms.

Modular weapon on the IG Valkyrie

I found out an easy way to make the Valkyrie weapons swappable, in this way you can either take out the weapons when they are damaged (so you can keep track of vehicle damage during the game) or change them if you change your mind about the weapons you want to use

- first of all you have to find somewhere some small magnets, I found them in and hobby store (you can also check e-bay...)
-then you cut some small holes in both the weapon support attached to the Valkyrie and the weapon
-now you have to glue one magnet both on the weapon and the support attached to the wing, make sure to glue them so that the magnet are attracted to each other!

Getting ready for the new Imperial Guard codex

I've always been fascinated by the Imperial guard, I like the idea of simple men fighting against huge aliens, demons and genetically engineered super humans using just their lasguns (and some super heavy tanks sometimes) But I never been able to easily win a warhammer 40K using the IG, if I'm lucky I usually end the game with a minor loss : (
So I'm really looking forward for the new codex!

In the next month I'm planning to complete some unit in order to be ready when the codex will come out, here are few examples of what I'm working on

The guy on the left will be part of an heavy weapon squad, the head come from
Pig Iron productions

He will be a junior officer, I wanted to make him look like Hellboy so i gave him a huge power fist from the an old space marines sprue. The pointing hand will be probably cut since I'm planning to give him a plasma pistol from the new command sprue.

Next there is a minor conversion to a chimera, I never liked the standard turret (doesn't make sense for an APC to have a turret) so I added to the autocannon a shield and some sandbags taken from the heavy weapons sprue.
