Space corridor tiles arrived!

The picture above shows the three basic elements of the gaming board I am about to build, they just arrived by email today and they are based on the designs I was working on.
What started as a terrain project for Dust Tactics became something more suitable for a Space Hulk game since I had to scale down the pieces.

Now I just need to make some molds and start casting the rooms

This other picture shows the walls placed on the Dust Tactics board, as you can see four wall tiles will be needed for each square since each of them is a little bit more of 1/4th of the square surface.

3D printing of Dust Tactics terrain

In last week I received lots od quotation about having the 3D dust tactics terrain tiles printed, In order to make the printing process a little bit cheaper I had to scale down by half each tile. In this way I'll have to use 4 tiles for each terrain element on the Dust Tactics board but I will be able to use them on smaller scale games like space hulk for example.

This is an example of each tile, they are about 5cm x 5 cm wide and 6 cm tall (the walls):

and these are examples of some space hulk 3d rooms created with above tiles

terrain elements for Dust Tactics

If you are familiar with the game Dust Tactics you will know that the box doesn't contain any terrain piece, there is just a couple of ammo crates and tank traps (or robot traps?) but there isn't any proper terrain piece. The major terrain elements provided are in fact some cardboard sqares that you put on the game board to show where tiles are occupied (hence units doesn't have line of sight trough them). Wouldn't be better to have some proper walls right? Starting from the elemens shown on the rulebook's pictures I designed the following pieces:

This time instead of using pen and paper I went on a more professional way usign google sketchup, each tile has been designed to be about 10 x 10 cm (so that can fit the Dust tactics board) but with a little scaling It can be used to build a Space hulk 3d gameboard

Dust Tactics video review

I just posted a video review of Dust Tactics on youtube:

If you don't have time to waste this is my opinion on a nutshell:
  • Robot tanks and miniature have a great design (especially the axis)
  • The plastic used for the miniatures is too soft and might be a problen for some collector
  • The game looks a lot like AT-43 (assembled miniatures, quality of material)
  • Game is fun!
for more info about the game check the official website
